24mm f1.4 AF DG HSM Art Lens
With the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM lens, a maximum f/1.4 aperture model joins the Art Line of lenses. Developed using experience from the of the 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art and its 50mm f/1.4 companion, this lens benefits from such expertise and as a result has excellent imaging performance. Sagittal coma flare, chromatic aberration, distortion and vignetting have all been minimised to a barely perceptible level to give a best-in-class optical performance. Equally at home photographing a starry night, landscape or a dimly illuminated interior, this lens consistently produces results to be admired with excellent definition and consistency of brightness right into the corners of the frame.

Distortion is a common issue in wide-angle lenses, and it is not possible to correct it simply by changing the aperture value. For this reason, a lens must be designed from the start to minimize this issue. By adjusting the incidence angle of light starting with the first lens element and incorporating optimally positioned aspherical glass elements, the SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art lens minimizes distortion throughout the entire image.
This lens minimizes chromatic aberrations, a common issue in large-aperture ultra-wide-angle lenses. It features two FLD (“F” Low Dispersion)* glass and five SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements to minimize transverse chromatic aberration, which is mainly visible around the edge of the image. The optimized lens power distribution helps minimize axial chromatic aberration. As a result, this lens delivers high image quality in every situation without colour smearing, and its rendering performance is consistently sharp with high contrast. 

Exclusive low-dispersion glass
The degree to which light is refracted by glass depends on the light's wavelength. This fact causes different colours of light to focus at slightly different points. The result is chromatic aberration, the colour fringing that is particularly noticeable in telephoto lenses. Most chromatic aberration can be removed by combining a high-refractivity convex lens element with a low-refractivity concave element. Yet residual chromatic aberration known as “secondary spectrum” may still remain. Minimized distortion.
It is not possible to compensate for distortion that is often observed with wide-angle lenses just by changing the aperture value. Therefore, the lens development stage is vital in ensuring minimized distortion. The SIGMA 24mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art features an adjusted incidence angle of the light source from the surface of the first lens and aspherical glass elements to optimize the power layout at respective positions. This has helped minimize distortion throughout the entire image.

Rounded diaphragm
When photographing with point light sources such as electric lights or reflections on a body of water in the background, the rounded 9-blade diaphragm helps produce an attractive bokeh effect—even at large-aperture settings.

46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensor
The 46 effective megapixel (4,800 × 3,200 × 3 layers) and 44 recording megapixel (4,704 × 3,136 × 3 layers) 23.5 × 15.7mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor captures all primary RGB colours at each and every pixel location, ensuring the capture of full and complete colour. Using three silicon-embedded layers of photo detectors, stacked vertically to take advantage of silicon's ability to absorb red, green and blue light at different respective depths, it efficiently reproduces colour more accurately, and offers sharper resolution, pixel for pixel, than any conventional image sensor. Since colour moiré is not generated, the use of a low-pass filter is not required, meaning light and colour, generated by the 46-megapixel APS-C X3 direct image sensor is captured with a three-dimensional feel.

35mm f/1.4 Art Lens:

Axial chromatic aberration
Axial chromatic aberration becomes a bigger issue with large-aperture lenses. As compared to conventional 35mm F1.4 lenses, this new lens is designed to produce images with extremely low chromatic aberration. As a result, it is possible to achieve a bokeh effect that is cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing than ever before.

Vignetting
The x-axis represents image height (distance from center of image in mm), and the y-axis represents the relative illumination at the edge of the image (with illumination at the center of the image defined as 100%). When relative illumination is low, the corners of the image appear dark, resulting in vignetting.

50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens:
High resolution plus outstanding bokeh
While maximizing resolution at the area in focus, this lens offers a silky-smooth bokeh affect to the front and rear. To achieve exceptionally crisp resolution, we have minimized sagittal coma flare, chromatic aberration, and every other type of optical aberration that affects image quality. The result is minute detail without bleeding or streaking, even at wide-open aperture. Moreover, we have also minimized both vignetting and colour streaking to the front and rear of the area in focus, thereby establishing a bokeh effect that is natural and aesthetically pleasing.

Minimized axial chromatic aberration
Axial chromatic aberration is difficult to correct after a photograph is taken using image processing software. For this reason, this lens features SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass to minimize axial chromatic aberration and deliver sharp, high-contrast image quality throughout the frame.

Minimized sagittal coma flare
An ideal large-aperture standard lens offers outstanding image quality across the image plane, even at wide-open aperture. Sagittal coma flare is an optical aberration in which point light sources near the image periphery have a tail (“coma”) instead of appearing round. To minimize this aberration, we have included a precision-molded aspheric lens element in the rearmost lens group. Since it minimizes the streaking of point light sources near the edge of the image, this lens is an excellent choice for shooting heavenly bodies and nighttime illumination. In addition, its beautiful bokeh effect makes it a great go-to lens for portraits, interior shots, and many other applications

Minimized distortion
Distortion is an optical aberration in which straight lines appear bent or curved. Since adjusting the focus cannot correct this aberration, it must be minimized at the design stage. This lens features aspheric lens elements and an optimized power distribution to minimize distortion from the center of the frame all the way to the edges. 

High peripheral brightness
Large-aperture lenses are prone to reduced peripheral brightness. In this lens, we have made the forward lens group large-aperture, thereby raising aperture efficiency. The result is minimal reduction of brightness at the image periphery and even image quality throughout the photograph. Even at the wide-open aperture, you can shoot a blue sky without fear of reduced brightness and achieve a beautiful bokeh effect at the same time.
