Canon today expands its revolutionary XF series of professional camcorders with the launch of the XF105 and XF100 - the smallest models ever to include the broadcast quality MPEG-2 Full HD recording codec (50Mbps, 4:2:2).
Perfect for users who need the flexibility to work in a range of field-based situations, the XF105 and XF100 fit into a new palm-sized category within Canon’s XF family. Their compact design and advanced image quality makes them ideal for operators who may routinely switch between a variety of projects, such as weddings, corporate videos or documentaries. With their unrivalled range of features, including a new Infrared mode and 3D Shooting Assist functions, plus easy-to-carry form factor, each provides the ability to move between assignments with one versatile camcorder.
Compact in size, light weight and fully featured, the Canon XF100 Professional Camcorder can be tailored to fit a wide range of individual needs. While sharing many of the capabilities of the Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders, including the Canon XF Codec and Compact Flash (CF) recording, the XF100 offers some exciting new features of its own.
Whether used as a companion to the XF305 or XF300 or as a standalone camcorder, the XF100 is geared for a wide range of applications where high image quality, extreme portability, and efficient workflow are of the utmost importance. And with infrared recording and true stereoscopic 3-D production capabilities, the XF100 allows users to explore new creative outlets and emerging markets.
The XF100 utilizes Canon's XF Codec – a file-based MPEG-2 compression with an MXF File Wrapper that ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure, metadata and non-linear editing (NLE) systems. The codec's 4:2:2 color sampling provides ultra-fine transitions in tone and color for maintaining the highest image quality needed for advanced post production processing.
The XF100's newly developed Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens along with a Canon native 1920 x 1080 CMOS Image Sensor delivers exceptional image quality. The XF100 also offers multiple recording bit rates, resolutions and variable frame rates to expand creative flexibility, allowing users to work in virtually any production environment.

MPEG-2 recording at up to 50Mbps (4:2:2)
The XF100 records MPEG-2 MXF (Media eXchange Format) files – up to 1920 x 1080 Full HD at 50Mbps (4:2:2) – to relatively inexpensive and widely available CompactFlash (CF) memory cards. Relay Recording across two card slots allow filming to continue without interruption, whilst Double Slot Recording lets you store the same footage to both cards.
10x Zoom Canon HD Video Lens
Drawing on Canon’s broadcast lens expertise, XF100 features a fast, wide angle Canon HD Video Lens (f1.8-f2.8, 30.4mm) with built-in control ring for adjustment of zoom, focus or iris. An enhanced Optical Image Stabilizer system helps to reduce chromatic aberration, maintain sharpness and reduce lens size.
3D Assist Functions; Infrared shooting mode
The XF100 features 3D Shooting Assist functions (OIS Axis Shift and Focal Length Guide) which support stereoscopic 3D video capture using two camcorders. With twice the infrared (IR) sensitivity of previous models it’s also perfect for low light shooting using the new IR Shooting Mode and built-in IR lamp. Green and white options are available to suit different projects.
Variable frame rates
A wide range of frame rates is available, from 12 to 50 fps. This gives cameramen the freedom to alter the capture rate for additional creative flexibility.
Light, compact design; XLR inputs
Putting exceptional functionality in the palm of your hand, the durable and lightweight design enables exceptional versatility. Linear PCM audio can be captured via twin XLR inputs and also using the front-mounted stereo microphone.
1/3 type Full HD Canon CMOS
A 2.07MP Full HD CMOS sensor – designed and manufactured by Canon - captures Full HD video at native 1920x1080 resolution. The sensor is equipped with a Bayer pattern colour filter for high sensitivity and wide dynamic range; high-speed data readout technology minimises rolling-shutter skew that can occur in CMOS camcorders.
8.8cm (3.5’’) 920k dot LCD; 0.6cm (0.24”), 260k dot EVF
The camcorder features a large, side-mounted LCD. This 8.8cm (3.5”) screen has a sharp, 920k dot resolution, with a built-in waveform monitor and Edge Focus function to help set up the shot. A 0.61cm (0.24’’), 260k dot EVF with 100% coverage is also available.
CPS support *
Canon’s exclusive CPS Video Support offers a priority repair service, guaranteeing quick turnaround.
