Capture and playback with 6G-SDI for SD, HD, 2K and Ultra HD.
With Blackmagic's roll out of Ultra HD products and the new DaVinci Resolve 11 their DeckLink family of capture cards have also been upgraded. These are perfect for older MacPro systems as well as Windows and Linux machines.
These new models add 6G-SDI connections for SD, HD and Ultra HD work. These new models are also based on the new Desktop Video 10 design so they include RGB frame buffers, low latency and of course can capture and playback at the same time with software that supports this feature. They are fantastic OEM cards as they include a full SDK as well but developers can even write pixels directly into the frame buffers.
DeckLink capture and playback cards are used every day in the production of television commercials, music videos, episodic television programs and Hollywood feature films. With cutting edge technologies built in, you get the highest quality video and maximum reliability. No other capture cards support more applications and more platforms than DeckLink, so you can always work with your favorite software. Every DeckLink PCIe card can be installed in Mac, Windows and Linux based workstations and media servers to give you ultimate flexibility.

Connecting to Decks and Monitors
With DeckLink models you can be assured you have every kind of connection, quality, file format and software compatibility you need for any task! Connect virtually any professional or consumer analog video device or deck. You can connect to digital decks, simply by plugging into the SDI connections for decks such as HDCAM, HD-D5, HDCAM SR and even standard definition Digital Betacam! If you're connecting to older decks such as Betacam SP, then you can use the component analog connections on the DeckLink Studio and DeckLink 4K Extreme to plug in direct using the component analog video connections and balanced analog audio. You even get S-video and composite for connecting to old VHS decks! DeckLink has models with both SDI and HDMI connections, so is perfect for connecting to broadcast monitors and video projectors for massive cinema style monitoring.
Connecting to Routers
DeckLink cards are perfect for use with routers because they include support for video, multi channel audio, timecode and close caption data, all down the single SDI cable. This saves costs on installing routers because the single SDI router can handle all the signal types without resorting to expensive multi level routers that cost millions! Different models of DeckLink cards support built in down conversion, so you can send feeds to systems that run separate SD and HD routers. Multi rate SDI connections also support newer router designs such as Blackmagic Design's Videohub range that allow multiple video formats on the same router at the same time.
Connecting to Live Production Switchers
Connecting to live production switchers is easy. If you're using DeckLink as a media player then you can run title software or animations in RGB using the DeckLink 4K Extreme model and output fill and key on the dual link SDI outputs. Each link can be connected to two switcher inputs, and the server can use the fill and key internally, to key these graphics live. The included Photoshop plug in also supports RGB graphics and alpha channels in your Photoshop graphics so you can update titles instantly for urgent on air graphics. DeckLink is also perfect for live streaming production switcher program outputs. Simply connect the switcher program or aux output to the DeckLink input and run your favorite streaming software.
Too many bugs to be of any practical use. I can only comment on it from a Media Composer/Windows perspective. Can't perform an analogue audio only capture unless there is SDI video going to the card input. Audio punch-in on Media Compser doesn't work either - the Blackmagic hardware option is greyed out. And why call this card a Studio device? It can't capture LTC so no use in a studio environment. Stability of card/software also questionable. If there was a no star option that's what this would get.

Does what it says on the tin, but I have spent so many hours trying to tease the bugs out of it. Not completely happy yet. Only time will tell how helpful this really is.
