The Nikon D5500 is an evolution of Nikon’s DSLR expertise using the latest technologies to create a camera with superb quality and user control, filtering the most useful of the latest technologies to help you realise your photographic or cinematic vision. It has a compact and lightweight, slimline yet robust monocoque body with deep ergonomic grip for ease of handling and robustness allowing you to always have it by your side.
The extra-high resolution 24.2 Megapixel image sensor is designed to come without an Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) so all the image detail and subtlety is clearly communicated to your recorded images. 100-25,600 ISO sensitivity allows you to shoot in near-dark conditions, and for action shooting there is also a maximum continuous frame rate of 5 frames per second. Fast and accurate focusing is attained using a 39-point AF array plus Advanced 3D Subject Tracking for even small and rapidly moving subjects to be accurately tracked.
Full HD movie recording is possible with the Nikon D5500 - with frame rates of up to 50p/60p with continuous Live View autofocus thanks to the advanced EXPEED 4 image processor.
It features a 3.2” (8.1cm) Vari-angle Touchscreen that can be rear or front-facing. The touchscreen functionality allows for gesture-based setup navigation, shutter speed ISO or other mode setting, as well as tap-based focus and shooting. Resolution is 1037k-dots and the screen boasts a wide viewing angle. The Touch Fn mode allows you to assign up to eight custom functions including focus points, ISO, aperture or AF area modes so they can be adjusted using finger swipes, making the D5500 extremely easy to control, whether or not you have access to the camera buttons.
Special Effects have been pre-preogrammed - including Pop to brighten colours, Easy Panorama, and Toy Camera for example, with on-screen preview and adjustment. Picture Control 2.0 also allows you to adjust settings such as saturation, sharpness, contrast, brightness or hue – with retention of image detail making it suited to post-production.
The D-5500 has built-in Wi-Fi for easy connection to handheld devices such as smartphones or tablets.
Inspiring Image Quality
Leave image-blur behind and enjoy vibrant, richly detailed images. From fast movement to low-light situations, your shots never looked this good.
Control your camera like a smartphone. Flip, tilt or rotate the touchscreen to compose shots from exciting angles, and then tap to focus and shoot.
Built In Wi-Fi
Your smart device will be one of your favourite camera accessories. Use the built-in Wi-Fi function to easily share impressive photos via a compatible smartphone or tablet.¹
Curve your fingers around the deep grip and you won’t want to put this camera down. Combined with its lightweight, slim-line body, the D5500 is all about comfort.
Superior Light Sensitivity
Shoot brilliant photos and movies even when the light is scarce. With an ISO range of 100–25600, you’ll achieve crisp, clean images more often than ever before.
Record smooth, finely detailed Full HD video clips you’ll be proud of, at frame rates up to 50p/60p. Continuous Live View autofocus keeps your subjects sharp, even when the action is fast.
In Perfect Focus
Nikon’s class-leading 39-point autofocus system is always on target. Advanced 3D subject tracking maintains focus on even the smallest subjects, however unpredictable their movements may be.
See how the best lenses lead to the best photos and movies. Use a fast prime lens for beautiful background blur, a telephoto lens for distant subjects, or a wide-angle lens for dramatic effect.
Large, High-Resolution Monitor
See every detail of your photos and movies as you shoot from exciting perspectives. The large 8.1-cm (3.2-in.) vari-angle LCD monitor boasts a wide-viewing angle and high 1,037k-dot resolution. Compose or review shots and apply special effects with clarity whether you’re shooting indoors or out.
Create distinctive photos and movies using a range of special effects. Try Pop to brighten colours or use Toy Camera to create a retro effect. You can preview your chosen effect and adjust its intensity as you shoot.
