The Canon EOS 6D is a full 35mm frame DSLR camera featuring excellent image quality in low light, combined with light weight and small dimensions but still featuring a hybrid magnesium-alloy composite body. Also features Wi-FI connectivity and GPS tracking making it ideal for location shooting as well as in the studio. The million-dot Live View LCD screen makes framing and checking focus easy and comfortable, whether recording stills or Full HD video footage.
Full Frame 20 Megapixel Sensor and DIGIC 5+ Processor
The Canon EOS 6D uses a combination of full frame 20-megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5+ image processor. When used in combination, colour accuracy is superb as is tonal gradation making it ideal for example for portraits. Every pixel on the CMOS sensor also features a microlens to give a “gapless” pixel array, focusing the light accurately and efficiently thus maximising light efficiency.
Full Frame Quality
As opposed to cameras using smaller sensors, you will be able to make the most of wide angle EF type lenses and the shallow depth of field that is made possible when using them with a larger sensor.
Lightweight yet Tough – Ideal for the Road
The EOS 6D is lightweight and compact yet tough thanks to its magnesium alloy composite construction, and weatherproof design. Its controls are easily at hand and straightforward, making it an ideal travel companion.
Strong Low Light Performer
Keep shooting amazing images even in extreme low light with the EOS 6D. Its ISO sensitivity extends from ISO 100 right up to ISO 25,600, manually expandable to 50 - 102,400! The 11-point AF system is designed to complement this capability and works down to -3EV, in other words it will work under moonlight. This combined with the powerful DIGIC 5+ image processor ensure images are far less likely to suffer from noise as light levels drop. For the same reasons this camera is great for action photography, allowing for super-fast shutter speeds in normal light and having up to 4.5fps continuous shooting.
Superb Exposure Accuracy
Includes 63-zone iFCL exposure metering which analyses each zone for brightness and colour, combining with focus information to give optimum combinations of aperture and shutter speed. There are also partial and spot metering modes for more manual control.
Clear Monitor and Bright Viewfinder
The bright 97% viewfinder gives a clear and bright image and the 3-inch (7.6cm) 1.04 million-dot Clear View II LCD screen allows you to check focus and framing comfortably.
HDR and Creative Features
The EOS 6D has a 3-frame high dynamic range (HDR) shooting mode to make the most of both highlight and shadow detail, and there is a multiple exposure mode where you can check the progress of the composite image as you take each frame..The generous 5-stop exposure compensation and 3-stop auto exposure bracketing mean when in use it’s very unlikely that you will not get a correctly exposed image.
GPS and Wi-Fi Connectivity
The built-in GPS receiver in teh EOS 6D detects your exact location when taking an image and tags the image file with the information. With GPS Logger mode, the camera creates a record of your movements, even when the camera is switched off. You can even shoot remotely from different viewpoint, and connect and control your EOS 6D using your computer or smartphone. Images can then be sent via Wi-Fi for sharing or printing and JPEGs can even be shared between compatible cameras.
The EOS 6D will record 1080p Full-HD video, reaping the benefits of the EF lens range with its fast aperture options, and full manual control to create striking cinematic effects. Files are recorded as .mov files using the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec with a choice of compression types, depending on whether ultimate quality or small file sizes are required. To aid synchronisation between multiple cameras, footage is also recorded with industry standard hr:min:sec:frame format time-code information.
You have creative control of frame rate and shutter speeds, having the choice of 1/4000 to 1/30sec at 24, 25 or 30fps or 1/4000 to 1/60sec at 50fps or 60fps. ISO speed can also be selected between ISO 100 and 12,800.
Audio quality can be upgraded easily thanks to the 3.5mm microphone socket, and recording level can be set manually over a 64-level scale, recording in high quality 16-bit digital stereo at 48kHz.
In-camera RAW Editing
Using the Digital Photo Professional software you can make use of non-destructive “post-production” adjustment of white balance, colour saturation, and correcting of exposure.
Digital Lens Optimizer
This extremely useful software tool can be employed en-masse to images to remove slight vignetting, distortion or chromatic aberration. It also works to improve image resolution, applying unique lens profiles to boost sharpness and compensate for diffraction and the low-pass filter within the camera.
