Friday morning: I call a number of suppliers. I'm trying to hunt down a Blackmagic Cinema Camera for a shoot. It's urgent. A bit like JRR Hartley: I'm shown the metaphorical door by all. Hen's teeth are more available and easier to find. Then I try CVP. There's one (yes, with the CF mount. OK, OK, I know, I know, but I've got all CF lenses, so sue me!) in Birmingham. The very helpful James (in London) calls me back and says he can get it shipped to me for Monday, if I pay by 3pm. I pay by 3pm. Cut to Monday morning: a big brown box with my name on appears at the office door. Thank you James. Thank you. Thank you CVP.
The camera is lovely. Chunky, yes. But I kinda like the way it says it is resolutely not a DSLR and needs to be treated differently. There are a million reviews of this thing online and all shades of opinion. Personally, I think it's great (so far.. yet to do the full shoot!), and the simplicity is charming. I can leave all the boring techy stuff to people who need more daylight in their lives. Me, I just want to shoot beautiful pictures and make beautiful films, and this little baby will do just that.
One small gripe, or -- to be positive: one piece of advice: make sure to order your SSD at the same time!
